Headliners set to heat up the Blues

Friday 22nd February 2008

Broadbeach Alliance has released the Headline Acts for the 2008 Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival and there is a younger sexier feel to the festival.

The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival will be flying over an international artist Malina Moye who has already had a Billboard chart hit as well as experience playing with the best in the business. Sexy and incredibly talented Malina has been compared to Alicia Keys with the only difference being her fender.

Flipping a Fender Stratocaster upside-down, internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter/lefty guitarist Malina Moye has already worked with such multi-platinum Grammy-Award-winning artists as Prince, The Sounds of Blackness, Kelis and R. Kelly to name a few. Moye was nominated for Los Angeles Music Award's "Best R&B Artist of the Year" and went on to win "Best R&B Video of the Year." An Alicia Keys with an electric guitar, Malina is the first African American left-handed, female guitarist endorsee to be included in the Fender Guitar stable, joining the ranks of Eric Clapton and John Mayer. She has released "Need Your Lovin," the first single from her highly anticipated LP, "Portrait of a Lady," and is featured in the soon-to-be-released UK documentary "Stratmaster: The Greatest Guitar Story Ever Told." The songstress has recently been recruited as a UK ambassador for Prince Charles' Prince's Trust and has donated her single "Say A Prayer 4 U" to the "Abolishment of Slavery" CD with all proceeds going to the Trust, UNICEF and other charities.

After being on Sony's writing team for two years, Moye's WCE Records released her first R&B single "Girlfriend" in 2003 to great reviews and followed-up in 2004 with her second single "Alone," which was on the charts for 32 consecutive weeks. It peaked at no 9 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts and at number 27 on the hot 100. With an electrifying stage show, Malina and her band deliver a fresh, intoxicating fusion of R&B, Rock and Soul. BET, Billboard Magazine and some of the country's biggest DJs have touted Malina as "a ground-breaking artist" and "a soulful breath of fresh air."

The headline act will be none other than Australian favourite the Black Sorrows who will be heading up the main stage at Kurrawa Park on Sunday the 1st of June.

Joe Camilleri is one of Australia's most loved musicians. His band, The Black Sorrows, have sold over a one million albums. Their last album, Roarin' Town, is intoxicating, joyous and uplifting. It is a bold step forward for an artist who's never been afraid of change and yet has echoes of Sorrows’ classics.

The seventh annual Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival has attracted over 200,000 people since it began in 2002 making this a world class event.

Transcending the barriers of age, gender and culture Blues on Broadbeach is one of Australia’s iconic Blues Festivals. The 2008 festival promises to be the first of its kind, feeding on the unique village like atmosphere and relaxed ambience that is Broadbeach. The Blues on Broadbeach Music festival nurtures Australian Blues talent as well as provides a stage for international acts. The festival provides a musical experience like no other in Queensland, remaining a FREE event.

Blues music is food for the soul and this festival combines the best of blues with the cream of Gold Coast cuisine in a guaranteed recipe for success.
