Benny D Williams

Benny is an enigma and a living legend of the Gold Coast’s underground music scene and entertainment community. The “digital caveman” combines traditional earthly instruments and rhythm with out-of-this-world sci-fi sounds and effects that feel like galactic voodoo. Coming back to Blues on Broadbeach for his third appearance, his performance enthrals and captivates the audience as he swaps from instrument to instrument, building unfathomable psychedelic layers of sound with a big fat loop pedal, soulful harmonies, and a decent dose of beatboxing thrown in.

Renowned for his amazing voice, wild guitar technique and incredibly huge sound, his songs are deliciously underlined with hypnotic percussive grooves that he creates live and seemingly out of nothing. “Imagine if John Butler, Lenny Kravitz, Nina Simone, Paul Simon, King Tubby, and Beck had an orgy at a world music festival and gave birth to a magical musical baby……..that baby would be Benny D Williams.

His solo career, so far, has taken him to some great stages and festivals and multiple tours up and down the east coast of Australia, seeking out the stories and rhythms from the cultural melting pot of this wonderful land. With a Bachelor of Popular Music and over 20 years of live music performance experience, Benny is a three-time finalist at the Gold Coast Music Awards (Artist of the Year 2017, Emerging Talent 2016, Release of The Year 2020), constantly exploring music and absorbing fresh sonic flavours. Not only are his own songs well-crafted and image-invoking but he also has a phenomenal back catalogue of obscure songs in his head that will just suddenly appear out of nowhere, translated into any genre, style, or mash-up purely to entertain himself and the audience. With three albums, four single releases since 2017 and a new studio album ‘CITIES OF GOLD’ just released in 2020, Benny D Williams is forever creating, producing, and releasing music. His live performance is an act often described unlike anything else and redefines the modern solo performer. Having played at Blues on Broadbeach before, we can tell you he’s an act you don’t want to miss!
