Dom Turner & The Rural Blues Project

Blues on Broadbeach can’t get enough of Dom Turner and The Rural Blues Project!

Multi-award-winning Australian Blues artist Dom Turner is best known as the guitarist, lead vocalist, and founding member of the iconic Australian Blues group, Backsliders as well as other international collaborations including R.L. Boyce with Dom Turner, The Turner Brown Band and Phil Wiggins & Dom Turner.

Dom has toured the Australian festival circuit since the 1980’s and regularly appears at most major, blues-related music festivals in particular very own Blues on Broadbeach!. He is a regular visitor to the home of the blues, the USA, performing at festivals across the country.

With over 30 years of recording and performing Blues in Australia and internationally with the Backsliders, Dom’s influences are many and varied – a blend of Mississippi hill country blues, delta blues, piedmont blues, rock, dub and sounds of Asia. In 2004, Dom was voted ‘Blues Songwriter of the Year’ at the Australian Blues Awards.

The Rural Blues Project features a mix of upbeat electric rural Blues from artists such as Lead Belly, Fred McDowell and Robert Johnson as well as originals, supported by the shuffle king himself, drummer Rosscoe Clarke (Foreday Riders, Cyril B Bunter) with occasional special guests.
