Melody Graves and the Hokum Redemption (MGHR) deliver a hot and vibrant take on early jazz and blues, fusing traditional sounds with a fresh, dynamic energy. Featuring two powerhouse vocalists and a smoking six-piece band, MGHR brings the spirit of juke joints, dance halls, and classic New Orleans jazz to life.
Formed in 2018 and led by charismatic vocalist and washboard percussionist Paula Hackney (a.k.a. Melody Graves), the band has captivated audiences at festivals and club shows alike. With a lineup of seasoned musicians and rising jazz talents, MGHR is redefining vintage swing with style, soul, and infectious rhythm.
Blues on Broadbeach proudly acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our events are held, the Kombumerri and Yugambeh Language Group families of the Gold Coast. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connections to the lands, waters, wildlife and extended communities throughout South East Queensland.
