The straight talking, hip swinging, raw and raunchy blues of the Trombone Kellie Gang could get the tiredest feet moving. Fronted by the infamous Trombone Kellie, whose gutsy vocal delivery and roots blues trombone playing feature alongside some ripping slide guitar by Scrubby Pete and a tight professional rhythm section with tasty upright bass by Justin Pfeiffer and precise and unique style drumming by Toby Baron.
This band as a three to five-piece outfit have the perfect recipe for raucous street blues, made for the people and delivered with relish. They are old school authentic, yet exciting, fresh and totally entertaining, predominately featuring delta swing and country blues styles.
Trombone Kellie is a delightful and exciting new entertainer, with a captivating and enthralling stage presence. She has a powerful and convincing delivery of beautiful vocals, accompanied by her melodic and raunchy trombone playing. Kellie has an absolutely amazing capacity, switching from singing to blowing the trommy and back again with barely a breath in between. She has a deep passion for jazz standards, and a love of gospel and soul music. She has arguably one of the most powerful female voices in the region today.
Scrubby Pete plays white-hot guitar and sings. He has played various tunings on guitars since he was a child and is considered a great slide guitarist, backing many great singers for some time. An untamed and crazy slide guitar player, channelling the blues legends like Kokomo Arnold, Blind Willie Johnson, Muddy Waters and other early 20th century slide guitar players.
Toby Baron is a veteran drummer of the London blues scene where he played with some of the UK’s finest blues musicians. His individual style has seen him working with a plethora of international artists including Ray Davies of The Kinks.
Justin Pfeifer brings a driving force to the rhythm section on Upright (Double) Bass and Electric Bass Guitar. Justin is an accomplished musician adept in a versatile array of musical genres including jazz, blues, and rock-a-billy. Justin’s musical career now spans 40 years exclusively on Bass.
