THE WAVES are an eclectic bunch of musicians with a dynamic range of musical styles and tastes. All the members work either for or with the City of Gold Coast, most notably Councillor Bob La Castra and CEO Dale Dickson. The Waves (previously known as “The Full Stops”) are regular performers around the City, good for all sorts of functions. Their wide experience is reflected in a large set list of covers plus a few originals. Bob La Castra (lead vocals) - Bob started earning his living as a singer, at the age of 13, on the English club circuit. On arrival in Australia, Bob ventured into television as is well known for his roles on ‘Wombat, Neighbours and ABC’s Holiday ‘program. Bob has received a Media Peace Prize for his song ’Change The Future,’ which was written to raise money for UNICEF and used as part of Bob Geldof’s Sport Aid’ promotion, which was played in 160 countries throughout the world.
Alton Twine (bass ,vocals) - Alton has been playing guitar in bands since his Uni days, including ‘Rock Wallaby’ and the ‘Suntans of Swag’ before lining up as the bassist for the more popular 90’s folk-rock ensemble ‘Hot Toddy.’ Hot Toddy toured Europe and produced Platinum album sales and records that can still be found on iTunes. Alton mostly manages City infrastructure issues these days, with the odd gig with the ‘The Playground’ and others.
Tyrone Gerada (guitar, vocals) - Tyrone’s part time musical career spans a lot of years having formed his first band at the age of 12 playing rhythm /lead guitar and singing lead vocals . Shortly after moving to the Gold Coast from Melbourne in the 80's, he formed a versatile outfit called The Rockafellas show band and later Beach Party band that entertained audiences at 5 star resorts and clubs along the east coast of Australia, including Twin Towns and Seagulls alongside rock’n’roll veterans The Delltones.
Ray Grech (guitar, vocals) - Ray, Melbourne born guitarist, has honed his skills by playing in many bands over the past 40 years and has captivated audiences with his hypnotic performances drawing his influences from guitarists Santana, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page and David Gilmore He has played with and supported artists in the music industry such as Brian Cadd 1997, Darryl Braithwaite Band in 2001, Troy Cassar-Daley & Tania Kernaghan in 2008.
Dale Dickson (percussion) - Dale has enjoyed a life-long love of music, but only took up playing recently. He figures the best way to hear great live music is to sit in the drummer’s seat. Dale is a self-confessed music history aficionado who, when not drumming, reads lots of paperwork.
Ronda Lettice (lead vocals) - Ronda brings a big voice to the band. Some would say a rose amongst the thorns. Returning to her passion later in life, she models herself on divas such as Tina Arena, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Following a successful career and family life, Ronda is now embracing the opportunity to fulfil her passion, previously as lead female vocalist for The Full Stops and now The Waves.
Darren Cassidy (keyboards) - Darren started playing the piano at the age of seven and by the mid-eighties he was playing in local Brisbane bands over a wide range of styles. Apart from joining band ‘The Full Stops’ for various gigs, Darren also plays in a three-piece band ‘Rare Footage’ around Brisbane. Darren has also played in big bands and performed solo gigs at restaurants and bars.
